SIPL has been specifically formed with the objective of promoting large infrastructure projects. SIPL has currently identified the following segments within infrastructure as areas that the company would immediately focus on: Thermal & hydel power projects, coal mining, gas based power projects and captive port projects. These projects will be promoted as Joint Ventures initiatives with players who already have a track record in implementation of medium to large power projects. SIPL has an in-house team of experts in energy, integrated project management and project finance.
Diversifying into various business verticals has given Shriram the edge and momentum to bid and successfully work on infrastructure projects in India, in particular Greenfield port and power sector. The group in association with several JVs has earmarked up to 1000 Cr in order to incubate infrastructure projects until financial closure.
The company is currently evaluating thermal based power projects in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Orissa to establish large power projects on a joint venture basis. The company would work in association with existing players who have proven track record in successfully implementing large projects in India and abroad.
